We arrived at abbey lakes in France Saturday morning to find all the pegs i had my heart set on had gone so i walked around the lake anyway and decided to bivvy up where I though the fish would be.
It got to Tuesday and I hadn’t had a single bleep so I got itchy feet and walked round the lake again as I new you had to be on the fish at abbey to catch them, so I got the the top of the lake where I new the fish were holding up waiting to spawn so I had a chat with a guy who was fishing peg 12 which id never fished before and he was leaving the following morning so id packed my stuff ready to move first thing.
I arrived in the swim about 11.30 and got my stuff set up after a few hours of getting my rods out and baited up with two kilo of cc moore live system boilies soaked in live system glug my delkims went screaming what a relief it was I bent into what felt like a big fish, it took me from weed bed to weed bed till it was about 30 yards out and it was locked up solid i couldn’t do anything so i shouted to my brother matt to get the bailiff, within 5 minutes Rupert the bailiff was in the boat and was on top of what turned out to be a monster Rupert shouted to me it’s a big common my legs started to wobble a bit then he shouted again hold on its the grey lady which i new was one of the wanted fish at abbey after Rupert netted her a sigh of relief was let out c’mon i shouted.
When I saw the grey lady in the net I new it was a special fish, after the commotion of weighing the big girl and Rupert chucking buckets of water over me she tipped the scales at 55lb 6oz a fish of a lifetime for me it was a stunner!
No sooner was she back my session got better with fish consisting of a 27.2lb mirror a 21.1lb mirror a 38.12 common and a 46.2lb common every bite came after topping up the swim with two kilo of cc moore live system boilies and two kilo of cc more betaine pellet! All fish were caught from 70 yards on a tiny gravel spot amongst weed.
